Niger, Republic. A National Order of Niger, III Class Commander and IV Class Officer

(Ordre national du Niger). Instituted in 1961. Includes:

1. III Class Commander: in silver gilt with hunter green and black enamels, maker marked "AB & Co" (Arthus Bertrand & Compagnie) on the reverse of the loop, measuring 60.5 mm (w) x 85.5 mm (h) inclusive of its wreath and laterally-pierced ball suspension, chipping and crazing evident in the hunter green enamels on the bottom portion of the arm at 3 o'clock, on its original full-length neck ribbon. In its hardshelled case of issue, hunter green pebbled exterior, inside lid in white satin, padded and maker marked "ARTHUS BERTRAND", base with a raised platform in orangey-beige felt, measuring 89.5 mm (w) x 158 mm (h) x 37.5 mm (d), case exhibiting light scuffing on the exterior.

2. IV Class Officer: four-piece construction, in bronze gilt with hunter green and black enamels, maker marked "AB & Co" (Arthus Bertrand & Compagnie) on the ring, measuring 40.5 mm (w) x 59 mm (h) inclusive of its wreath and laterally-pierced ball suspension, intact enamels, greening evident on the edges of the ball finials, large rosette affixed to its original ribbon. Very fine and near extremely fine, respectively.

 

Footnote: The National Order of Niger was instituted on July 24, 1961. It is awarded for distinguished service, military or civilian, to the nation, in five grades: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight.
