Germany, Wehrmacht. A 1939 Clasp to the Iron Cross II Class, Type II, by B.H. Mayer

(1939 Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz 1914 II. Klasse). Instituted 1 September 1939. (1940-1945 issue). Constructed of silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of a Wehrmacht eagle perched on top of a wreathed mobile swastika, in turn set above a trapezoidal plaque bearing a raised date of “1939”, the reverse retaining all four attachment prongs affixed to a period original ribbon, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of manufacture by B.H. Mayer, Pforzheim, measuring 30.29 mm (w) x 31.08 mm (h), weighing 9.0 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in extremely fine condition.
