Footnote: The Konar State Rebellion Medal was instituted in 1945 by King Mohammed Zahir Shah and was awarded for the suppression of a Pashtun rebellion in the small north-eastern province of Kunar bordering Pakistan. Konar Safays are the largest and most powerful of the province’s Pashtun tribes. They have historically been one of the most dissident tribes, with a major uprising against the central government in 1945-1946.
