In white porcelain, smooth shaped cabinet teacup, the wall bearing a first-class iron cross surrounded by a raised gilt wreath, a thinner wreath also wraps around the rim, with a plain gilt lip, the unique handle which is reminiscent of an eagle’s head sits above the lip, the bottom presents the green makers mark for Rosenthal Selb-Bavaria , the teacup measures 98mm (w – including handle) x 110mm (h), small marks throughout, light wear to gilding on handle, remains in extremely fine condition.

The saucer in white porcelain features an exterior gilded rim, with a raised bough pattern in gentle arabesques, a gilded ring with thin rays from the center, which features the inscription Erinnerung aus großer Zeit 1914/16, the bottom features the makers mark of Rosenthal Selb-Bavaria, measures 131mm (diameter), light gilt wear, no cracks or chips, in extremely fine condition.

 

Footnote: Phillip Rosenthal began operating in the porcelain industry in 1884 in Erkersreuth, near Bavarian Selb. In 1910 and 1920, artistic ceramic divisions were opened. The company was lost during the second world war, as Philip was forced to leave Germany. His son, also named Philip, returned to Germany and succeeded in regaining control of the company in 1950. In 2000, the company became part of Hutschenreuther and is now traded as Rosenthal GmbH.
