Instituted January 1 1899. In silver, full size, rim impressed Sgt. Maj. J. Richards G.T.R, worn on original ribbon with FENIAN RAID 1870 clasp, dark patina, light wear, in extremely fine condition.

Accompanied by a black and white portrait of Sgt. Major Richards wearing the medal, contained in a silver frame with wood reverse plate, measures 155mm (w) x 218mm (h) x 13mm (d), silver hallmarks on the side of the frame denoting S. Blanckanesee & Sons Ltd of Chester, sterling silver, city marks for Chester, and date mark of 1912, panel buckling on reverse at edges, replacement screws in stand, dark patina, scratches and dents to obverse, dark patina in very fine condition.

 

Footnote: Sergeant Major John Richards of Montreal began serving on May 24 1866. This individual is included in the Grand Trunk Railway Brigade Service Roll, located in the Library and Archives Canada documents (C-1863, RG9 IIA5, 28655).
