Constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Maltese Cross with red enameled arms bordered by black enamel and with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse with a central white enameled medallion bearing a gilt mobile swastika defaced by a Wolfsangel rune, in turn set within a semi-circular oak leaf wreath, the reverse with a central white enameled medallion bearing a gilt inscription of “MUSSERT 1941”, circumscribed by a gilt inscription of “HOU EN TROU” (“LOYAL AND TRUE”) and a semi-circular oak leaf wreath, unmarked, measuring 37.38 mm (w) x 42.05 mm (h), weighing 20.7 grams, some flecking and minor surface scratching is visible to the enamels, in overall extremely fine condition.
