(Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen in Silber Dem Verdienste 1914 mit Schwerterspange). Instituted 25 June 1902 by Grand Duke Wilhelm Ernst. (1914-1918 issue). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with mis-matched Bronze Grade sword clasp, the obverse bearing a raised and leftward-facing profile of Grand Duke Wilhelm Ernst, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse bearing a central wreathed inscription of “DEM VERDIENST 1914” (“FOR MERIT 1914”), unmarked, measuring 35.10 mm in diameter, weighing 26.0 grams (inclusive of ribbon and clasp), with some surface wear evident, in near extremely fine condition.
