Germany, Heer. An Armoured Officer’s Visor Cap

Item #G53820

$1,000
(Heer Schirmmütze für Offizier der Panzertruppe). An extremely well-preserved Heer Armoured Officer’s visor cap, constructed of field-grey wool. It features reinforced side walls, fully lined on the exterior with a dark green wool cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the bands are trimmed with lengths of rose-pink piping, while an additional band of identical piping trims the outer edge of the crown. Pinned onto the peak is a silvered zink insignia consisting of a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 68 mm (w) x 26 mm (h) overall. Directly beneath the eagle, the centre of the cap band is pinned with an additional multi-piece insignia consisting of a silvered zink oak leaf wreath surrounding a tri-colour cockade, measuring 70 mm (w) x 48 mm (h) overall. The cap band is flanked by pebbled magnetic metal buttons securing in place a chinstrap constructed of multiple rows of twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire piping, adjusted with dual sliding knots. It rests upon a protruding vulcanfibre visor, finished in a glossed black on the obverse and in a matte beige on the reverse. The interior of the side walls is lined with a beige leatherette sweatband, while the body is fully encompassed by a slate-grey rayon liner. An intact transparent celluloid moisture guard is stitched onto the crown. It is unmarked with the exception of a black ink size mark of “57” stamped onto the back of the crown. The cap measures approximately 24.5 cm (w) x 25.5 cm (l) x 16 cm (h). Demonstrating only minor wear consistent with age and light field use, the cap remains in an extremely fine condition.
