Item #G53783
(Luftwaffe Dolch für Offiziere mit Gehänge). A very well-preserved Luftwaffe Officer’s dress dagger, measuring 41 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 25 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and edges. Fully unmarked, the blade sits securely within a silvered metal alloy crossguard, the obverse of which bears a raised Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika. The handle grip is composed of a single piece of ribbed brown celluloid, with the ribbing retaining an original twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire cord. The dagger is completed by a rounded silvered metal alloy pommel bearing a double-sided wreathed mobile swastika, screwing in to maintain the dagger’s structural integrity. It is accompanied by its original scabbard, constructed of a pebbled magnetic metal shaft. The upper third of the shaft has two integral oak leaf bands with loops to accommodate a hanger. The throat retains a functional spring catch to firmly hold the dagger in place during storage. Minor issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some running marks and tarnishing to the blade, tarnishing of the scabbard, and slight material fatigue to the portepee. It remains in a near extremely fine condition.
The dagger is also accompanied by a matching hanger, consisting of a functional gilded zink spring clip, with two loops emanating from the lower edge. Descending from the loops are two dark blue-grey wool doeskin straps, topped by rayon tresses of identical colour, in turn flanked by machine-embroidered silver aluminum wire tresses. The straps are both adjusted with functional gilded zink buckles, and complete with functional spring clips of identical construction to lock onto the scabbard’s loops. Demonstrating loss of gilt finish to the zink fixtures, the hanger remains in an extremely fine condition.
