Russia, Imperial. An 1819 Medal for the Launch of the Sloops Discovery and Benevolent

Constructed of bronze, the obverse bearing a raised and rightward-facing profile of Tsar Alexander I, circumscribed by name and title in Russian Cyrillic, the reverse bearing a plain Cyrillic inscription indicating that the medal was issued in 1819 to commemorate the launch of the sloops “ОТКРЫТІЕ” (“DISCOVERY”) and “БЛАГОНАМѢРЕННЫЙ” (“BENEVOLENT”), unmarked, measuring 42 mm in diameter, in near extremely fine condition.
