Russia, Imperial. An 1873 Medal for the Dedication of the Monument to Catherine the Great, by M. Mikeshin and A. Semenov

Constructed of bronze, the obverse bearing a central raised and rightward-facing profile of Tsarina Catherine II (“the Great”), situated within a circular laurel and oak leaf wreath, in turn surrounded by a stylized Russian Cyrillic dedication to Catherine’s memory with name and title, the reverse bearing a central raised depiction of the Monument to Catherine II in Ostrovsky Square in St. Petersburg, circumscribed by name and situated above a dedication date, designer and engraver marked “М. МИКѢШИНЪ” (“M. MIKESHIN”) and “А. СЕМЕНОВ” (“A. SEMENOV”), respectively, measuring 86 mm in diameter, demonstrating edge nicks and minor surface oxidation, a large medal in near extremely fine condition.
