Germany, SA. An SA-Wehrmannschaft Enlisted Personnel Service Tunic

(SA-Wehrmannschaft Dienstrock). An uncommon and extremely well-preserved SA-Wehrmannschaft Enlisted personnel service tunic, constructed of olive-drab wool. It features a turned-down collar, transitioning into double breast lapels, which is flanked on each side by tabs. Constructed of brown wool with buckram cores and trimmed with white piping, each tab measures 45 mm (w) x 60 mm (l). The shoulders are flanked by straps, each constructed of an identical olive-drab wool and similarly trimmed with white piping. Measuring 46 mm (w) x 115 mm (l), the straps are secured in place with machine stitched through the outer shoulder seam and with polished magnetic metal buttons on the inner edge. The cuff of each sleeve has a vertical slit which closes with two brown bakelite buttons meeting a reinforced buttonhole set into a hidden rayon strap for an adjustable fit. Affixed to the upper left arm is a period original NSDAP armband, constructed of a red cotton base overlaid by a white disc, in turn bearing a machine-embroidered black mobile swastika. The armband measures 100 mm in width. Each breast flap features two pleated pockets, all closing with scalloped flaps with reinforced buttonholes meeting polished magnetic metal buttons. It closes with four polished magnetic metal buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. All breast buttons are stamped on the reverse with Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) logos and maker codes “M5/8” for F.W. Assmann & Söhne, Lüdenscheid, while the pocket buttons are a mix of two “M5/8”-marked pieces, with the other two demonstrating unidentified Third Reich-period maker’s marks. The interior features a partial light brown rayon liner set across the shoulders and upper back, descending down into the flaps, where it forms the interior of the pockets. Unmarked, the tunic measures approximately 430 mm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 550 mm, and an overall body length of 690 mm when folded on a flat surface. Demonstrating only minor soiling and wear, the tunic remains in an overall extremely fine condition.
