(Ordem Militar de Sant'Iago da Espada). Instituted 1175. Type III. 1918-Present. A well executed enamelled Collar in silver gilt, consisting of a chain composed of 12 detailed red, green, and white enamelled links alternating with 12 delicate green and blue enamelled bow-tied laurel wreath links, including hook-backed clasp at the neck joining the two ends together with makers mark of J.A. DA COSTA LISBOA, reverse of all other links are plain, measuring 76.0 cm in length, near extremely fine. Accompanied by the badge of the collar, consisting of a finely enamelled red St. James cross surrounded by an enamelled light green palm wreath featuring a white enamelled ribbon depicting the inscription SCIENCIAS, LETRAS E ARTES (Science, Literature, and Arts), suspended by enamelled dark green and blue laurel wreath, measuring 51.2mm (w) x 101.1mm (h – inclusive of wreath suspension), light enamel wear to the badge, both the collar and badge weigh 162.4 grams, a lovely collar and badge set, in extremely fine condition.
