Germany, Federal Republic. An Order of Merit, Commander’s Cross

(Verdienstorden der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Großes Verdienst­kreuz). Constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Cross Pattée with red enameled arms, bearing double-sided central Federal Republic-style German national eagles, the twelve o’clock arm topped by a fan suspension with a loop retaining a period original full length neck ribbon, closing with a functional bronze buckle, unmarked, measuring 60.05 mm (w) x 70.71 mm (h), demonstrating minor flecking of the enamels, in extremely fine condition.
