Bavaria, Kingdom. A Pilot’s Badge, by Carl Poellath

(Flugzeugführerabzeichen). Constructed of silver, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Bavarian royal crown, around a central depiction of a monoplane flying over a rural landscape, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a rounded catch, maker marked “CARL POELLATH, SCHROBENHAUSEN”, above an inscription of “SILBER”, measuring 44.54 mm (w) x 73.70 mm (h), weighing 24.6 grams, a striking and high-quality example in extremely fine condition.
