(Luftwaffe-Feld-Divisionen Ostfront Fotoalbum). An interesting an extremely well-preserved private wartime photo album from a soldier who served with the Luftwaffe Field Divisions. It is constructed of a card stock binding with a faux textured leather exterior liner. The spine is perforated with four eyelets, all reinforced with magnetic metal grommets, through which is looped a drawstring that maintains the album’s structural integrity. The lower right corner of the cover bears a silvered inscription of “MEINE KRIEGS-ERINNERUNGEN” (“MY WAR MEMORIES”). The interior content consists of 21 black card stock pages retaining 201 private black-and-white photos. The images open with the owner participating in football and handball games with other servicemen, followed by images of troops on general duty, later document the owner’s transit through Romania to Soviet Ukraine, with shots of barracks-building and scenic views of the Black Sea. The former includes a group of photos showing a soldier receiving a charity haircut with proceeds going to the Winterhilfswerk (WHW) donation campaign. The latter part of the album documents the owner’s time in combat on the Eastern Front, opening with further images of troops and duty and with locals, followed by combat images. It closes with wedding photos and studio portraits of the presumed owner. Measuring 31 cm (w) x 22.5 cm (h), a Stahlhelm decoration formerly affixed to the upper left corner of the cover is missing, but the album demonstrates no other damage and is in an extremely fine condition.
