(SS Fotoalbum). A rare and fascinating early Third Reich period photo album from a member of the SS-Nachrichteneinheiten (Signals Unit), constructed of a card stock binding with 21 black card stock interior pages. Affixed to the latter are 147 black-and-white photos documenting the owner’s career, beginning in 1934, where he was billeted in Bad Cannstatt with other Allgemeine SS personnel. These images include shots of early SS uniforms and kepis, with scenes of personnel training and at leisure (including playing in a football match). The owner then appears as a member of the staff of an SS Nachrichteneinheiten school in Bad Cannstatt in February 1935. Photos from this time period include many scenic shots of Stuttgart and the surrounding area, and notably include two candid, unpublished images of AH. The remainder of the album shows the owner and other Allgemeine SS personnel in Berlin, where Olympic imagery is visible. It closes with several shots of SS personnel at leisure and on parade, with family photos. The album measures 23.5 cm (w) x 30 cm (h), and is a scarce and interesting look at early SS service in an unusual branch.
