(Reichsluftschutzbund Dolch für Unterführer 2. Modell). A very well-preserved Reichsluftschutzbund (Reich Air Protection League/RLB) Subordinate’s Dagger, measuring 36 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 22 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and edges. The blade is plain with the exception of a maker’s mark on the reverse ricasso of “PAUL WEYERSBERG & CO., SOLINGEN”, circumscribing the firm’s wreathed sword logo. It sits securely within a nickel-silver crossguard, taking the form of a pair of stylized wings overlaid on the obverse with a raised RLB-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, with an intact black leather buffer pad covering the seam. The handle grip is composed of a single piece of lacquered black wood, overlaid on the obverse with a silvered and enameled RLB insignia consisting of an eight-pointed radiant starburst bearing a black mobile swasika, measuring 25 mm (w) x 25 mm (h). The dagger completes with a flattened nickel-silver pommel which screws in to maintain the dagger’s structural integrity. It is accompanied by its original scabbard, constructed of a black-painted magnetic metal shaft. A nickel-silver fitting is riveted to the tip, while the throat retains a spring catch to firmly hold the dagger in place during storage. Emanating from the side of the shaft near the throat is a loop for the accommodation of a hanger. The former is included and consists of a black leather strap retaining a functional nickel-silver spring clip. Minor issues consistent with age and wear are evident, including some running marks to the blade, loss of finish to the handle and corresponding insignia, and a tear to the leather hanger. This scarce dagger remains in a near extremely fine condition.
