Bavaria, Kingdom. An Order of Max Joseph, Commander Miniature, c. 1914

Instituted January 1, 1806 by Maximilian Joseph. In silver gilt, a white enamelled Maltese cross, the obverse medallion presents a blue enamelled field with the inscription MJ, the reverse presents the order’s motto VIRTUTI PRO PATRIA on a blue enamelled background, the badge is suspended from a large gilt crown, measures 15.80mm (w) x 32.25mm (h – inclusive of crown suspension and integral ring), weighs 2.5 grams, enamels intact, integral ring connected to crown exhibits poor melding at band of crown, near very fine condition.
