(旭日章). Instituted in 1875 by Emperor Meiji of Japan. 1875-2003 issue. In silver, an outstanding enameled white silver-framed symbol of the Rising Sun, featuring a fine central red glass cabochon, with double-sided design, suspension featuring nicely enameled green and purple symbol of the Paulownia Flowers, measuring 56.67 mm (w) x 87.15 mm (h - inclusive suspension and its integral ring), with chipping enamels on the 12 o’clock ray, suspension with minor cracked green enamels, suspended by original ribbon on loop suspension, very fine conditions.
Footnote: The Order of the Rising Sun was established in 1875 by Emperor Meiji of Japan. The Order was the first national decoration awarded by the Japanese government, created on April 10, 1875 by decree of the Council of State. The order is awarded to those who have made distinguished achievements in the following fields: international relations, promotion of Japanese culture, advancements in their field, development in welfare or preservation of the environment.
