(Ordine di San Gregorio Magno). Instituted in 1831. Civil Division. In silver gilt, a red enamelled Maltese cross with ball finials, the obverse medallion featuring a gilded bust of St. Gregory on blue enamels, surrounded by a ring inscribed S. GREGORIUS MAGNUS, the reverse medallion presents a blue medallion features the inscribed PRO DEO ET PRINCIPE, the surround in inscribed GREGORIUS XVI P.M. ANNO., the cross is surmounted by a green and red enamelled wreath, measures 57.75mm (w) x 88.2mm (h), weighs 51.2 grams (including ribbon), worn on a full length neck ribbon with elasticised clips, enamels intact, light wear to gilding, in very fine condition.

Accompanied by a red leatherette hardshell case with the Vatican symbol on the lid, the interior with crème coloured silk lid with makers mark Tanfani & Bertarelli, the creme colour velvet base with storage compartment for neck ribbon, includes a small boutonniere of red and yellow ribbon, measures 138mm (w) x 160mm (h) x 28mm (d), hinge and catch functional, light wear to interior and exterior, in very fine condition.
