Romania, Kingdom. An Order of the Star of Romania, Grand Cross, c.1918

(Ordinul Steaua Romaniei). Instituted in 1877 by Prince Carol I. Type I (1877-1932). Civil Division. In silver gilt, a blue enamelled cross with clusters of smooth rays in each quadrant, the obverse medallion features a superimposed eagle on a red enamelled field, surrounded by a blue enamel ring inscribed IN FIDE SALUS, encircled by a green enamelled wreath, the reverse bears the crowned monogram of King Carol I, the cross is surmounted by a large crown, measures 72.15mm (w) x 109.5mm (h – inclusive of cross adorned crown suspension), weighs 78.0 grams, worn on a full length replacement sash with metal clip for cross attachment, enamels intact, a lovely decoration in extremely fine condition.
