Germany, Imperial. A Heer Officer’s Parade Sword

Item #M0454-30

$270
(Heer Schwert für Offizier). A well-preserved Heer Officer’s sword, measuring 85.5 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 72.5 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and with dual narrow fullers running the majority of the length of each side. Unmarked, the blade sits securely within a multi-piece gilded bronze hilt complete with a hand guard. The handle grip consists of a ribbed wooden core wrapped in a layer of rayskin, with the ribbing retaining an original twisted and rolled bronze wire cord. It is accompanied by its original scabbard, constructed of a black painted magnetic metal shaft. An integral band near the throat retains a loop for the accommodation of a hanger. Issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some running marks to the blade, wear of the handle grip, loss of scabbard paint, and the loss of the scabbard’s throat clip rendering the sword loose during storage. It remains in an overall better than very fine condition.
