Constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms trimmed with raised borders, the obverse bearing a central raised crown, surrounded by a blue enameled ring bearing a gilt inscription of “GOTT MIT UNS” (“GOD WITH US”) with arabesques, the reverse bearing a central raised monogram of King Wilhelm I, surrounded by a blue enameled ring bearing a gilt institution date of “DEN 16 OCTOBER 1861”, maker marked between the six and nine o’clock arms with the logo of Sy & Wagner, Berlin, measuring 42.90 mm (w) x 47.45 mm (h), weighing 13.9 grams, minor loss of gilt finish is evident and sporadic chipping is visible to both of the enameled rings, in near extremely fine condition.
