1. Gold Star Medal of Hero of the Soviet Union (Золотая Звезда Героя Советского Союза). Instituted in 1939. In bronze gilt, measuring 28.5 mm (w) x 30.2 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, exhibiting contact marks on the reverse, along with scattered gilt wear overall, suspended from a ribboned rectangular hanger with screwback.
2. Medal for the Defence of the Soviet Polar Regions (Arctic) (Медаль «За оборону Советского Заполярья (Арктики)»). Instituted in 1944. In brass, measuring 28.5 mm (w) x 30.2 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, exhibiting greening on both sides, along with oxidation spots and gilt wear on the reverse, edge nicks, spotting and contact marks overall, original ribbon, mounted to a five-sided aluminum suspension with pinback.
Accompanied by three booklets:
(i) Award Booklet: numbered "822297", documenting two awards to Aleksondra Stepanenko: the Order of the Badge of Honour on December 2, 1966 and the Order of the October Revolution on August 14, 1977, measuring 75 mm (w) x 105 mm (h).
(ii) Award Booklet: numbered "349161", documenting five awards to Petr Andreievich Panko: the Order of the Red Star, the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner (2) and the Order of the Patriotic War II Class, with a black and white photograph of him wearing his awards, measuring 72 mm (w) x 105 mm (h).
(iii) Military Identification Booklet: in cursive script and therefore the soldier's name cannot be read, with black and white photograph of the soldier, stating that he was born in 1904, that he served before and during the Second World War (1939-1944), extensively from 1941 onward and that he survived, the booklet issued on February 14, 1948, measuring 80 mm (w) x 105 mm (h). 1. The Gold Star Medal of Hero of the Soviet Union was instituted on August 1, 1939 by the Presidium of the Chief Soviet of the Soviet Union. It was awarded to those persons (military or civilian) granted the title "Hero of the Soviet Union". The title is granted for heroic actions in the service of the state. Holders of the title also received the Order of Lenin.
2. The Medal for the Defence of the Soviet Polar Regions (Arctic) was instituted on December 5, 1944 and awarded to servicemen and civilians involved in the defence of the Murmansk area from June 29, 1941.
