Item #G54606

$601
A well-preserved Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging in Nederland (National Socialist Movement in the Netherlands/NSB) Weerbaarheidsafdeling (Resilience Department/WA) member’s visor cap, constructed of black wool. The cap features reinforced side walls, trimmed along both the top and bottom edges with red wool piping. An additional band of identical piping trims the outer edge of the crown. Stitched onto the peak is a large WA insignia consisting of a triangular black wool base trimmed with a silver aluminum wire border, in turn surrounding a Wolfsangel rune of identical construction, superimposed over a red and black field. The insignia descends down across the cap band and measures 75 mm (w) x 65 mm (h) overall. A blackened non-magnetic button flanks each side of the cap band to accommodate a blackened leather chinstrap which is adjusted with a functional magnetic metal buckle. The exterior features are completed with a protruding vulcanfibre visor which is finished in matte black on the obverse and white on the reverse. The interior is surrounded by a dark brown leather sweatband, and fully encompassed by a black rayon liner. Unmarked, the cap measures approximately 22.5 cm (w) x 22.5 cm (l) x 13 cm (h). Issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include soiling to the wool of the crown which has degraded the base material, sporadic fatigue of the visor finish which has exposed the core, and extensive material fatigue of the sweatband. Demonstrating unmistakable signs of period wear, this example remains in an overall very fine condition.
