Item #G54760

$451
(Schutzpolizei Schirmmütze für Mannschaften). A well-preserved Schutzpolizei EM/NCO’s visor cap, constructed of police-green whipcord wool. The cap features reinforced side walls fully lined on the exterior with a dark brown felt cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the latter are trimmed with green piping, while an additional band of green piping trims the outer edge of the crown. Pinned onto the peak is a non-magnetic metal tri-colour cockade measuring 24 mm in diameter. Directly below the cockade, the centre of the cap band is pinned with an additional silvered zink insignia in the form of an Ordnungspolizei logo, consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, overlaid by a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. The eagle insignia measures 55 mm (w) x 55 mm (h). The cap band is flanked by black painted magnetic metal rivets securing in place a multi-piece black leatherette chinstrap, adjusted with dual functional blackened magnetic metal buckles. Completing the exterior features is a protruding vulcanfibre visor, finished in matte black on the obverse and in dark green on the reverse. The interior is fully surrounded by a light brown leather sweatband perforated across the forehead with ventilation holes. A multi-piece brown oilcloth liner encompasses the interior, with the crown retaining a partially-intact transparent plastic rhomboid moisture guard bearing an illegible maker’s mark and size of “59”. The cap measures approximately 26 cm (w) x 26 cm (l) x 16 cm (h). Issues consistent with age and field wear are evident, and include some material fatigue of the exterior wool, fading of the crown piping, oxidation and loss of finish to the exterior insignia, and fading and soiling throughout the interior. It remains in a very fine condition.
