Austria, Empire. A Gold Grade Bravery Medal, Officers Version, c.1918

A round medal in gilded bronze; the obverse depicting the rightward facing bust of Kaiser Karl, circumscribed by his name and title; marked “Kautsch” on the obverse; the reverse inscribed “Fortitudini” (Fortitude), within a laurel wreath with Austrian flags in the background; on a “Stielhenkelose” style suspension, marked bronze on edge, with a period original ribbon, with a gilt “K” denoting that the medal was intended for an officer; measuring 39.56mm (w) x 54.27mm (h) (to top of ring suspension), weighing at 26.7grams, overall better than extremely fine condition.
