(Wehrmacht Schiffchen für Freiwillige Osttruppen). An interesting Wehrmacht overseas cap issues to an Eastern volunteer, constructed of field-grey wool with olive-drab undertones. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels which are scalloped toward the front. Stitched onto the front is a field-made cockade consisting of a oval reinforced white wool backer topped by black and pale red or orange, measuring 22 mm (w) x 32 mm (h) and possibly indicating issue to Kuban Cossack volunteers. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece olive-drab rayon liner. Unmarked, the cap measures approximately 28 cm (l) x 12 cm (h) when folded on a flat surface. The exterior wool demonstrates moderate material fatigue with sporadic mothing, but this unusual cap remains in an overall very fine condition.
