(Wehrmacht Schiffchen M42 für Freiwillige Osttruppen). A well-preserved Wehrmacht M42 overseas cap issued to an Eastern volunteer, constructed of field-grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side walls, scalloped toward the front, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use the panels are rolled up and secured in place at the front with two pebbled magnetic metal buttons which emanate from the right side and meet a pair of reinforced buttonholes on the left. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a black wool backer bearing a Russian-style green, white, and black oval cockade, measuring 32 mm (w) x 46 mm (h) overall. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece dark grey rayon liner. Unmarked, it measures approximately 27 cm (l) x 12.5 cm (h) when folded on a flat surface. Demonstrating only minor soiling and material fatigue consistent with age and wear, it remains in a near extremely fine condition.
