An extremely well-preserved First World War Russian bond poster, constructed of paper stock with multi-coloured ink, the obverse bearing a stylized image of Russian infantry advancing with bayonets at the ready, against a red horizon which evokes the brutality and bloodshed of the front, situated just above a white Russian Cyrillic inscription of “ВОЕННЫЙ ЗАЕМЪ” (“WAR BONDS”, offered at 5% and 5½%), the lower edge bearing inscriptions of “ДОЗВОЛЕНО ВОЕННОЙ ЦЕНЗУРОЙ 1916. ПЕТРОГРАД”, indicating approval by military censors in Petrograd (St. Petersburg), and a printer’s mark of “ХУДОЖЕСТВ. ГРАФИЧ ЗАВЕДЕНІЕ ‘УНІОНЪ’ ПЕТРОГРАД” for a Petrograd-based publishing house, beautifully presented on a sturdy linen backer which has perfectly preserved the poster for display, measuring 103.5 cm (w) x 74 cm (h) overall, in extremely fine condition.
