United Kingdom. A Empress of India Medal, in Silver

Instituted in 1877. In silver, a large silver medal presenting the right facing bust of Queen Victoria, surrounded by the inscription VICTORIA 1^ST JANUARY 1877, the reverse presents the inscription EMPRESS OF INDIA in English, Urdu and Hindi, with a geometric border around the exterior rim, worn on a swivel straight bar suspension and from original ribbon, measures 56.9mm (w) x 64.8mm (h), weighs 104.5 grams (including ribbon), large edge knock to 6 o’clock rim, light contact marks elsewhere, lovely patina, in very fine condition.

Footnote: The Medal was issued in Gold and Silver. Gold Medals were awarded to Indian princes and high-ranking British Officials while Silver Medals were awarded to Indian civilians and Officers and men of British and Indian regiments serving in India.
