(Wolfram von Richthofen Brief mit Postkarte). A handwritten letter from Wolfram von Richthofen, a First World War fighter ace with eight aerial victories and cousin of aces Manfred (the “Red Baron”) and Lothar who went on to become one of the most senior commanders of the Condor Legion and later attain the rank of Generalfeldmarschall and receive the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross (17 May 1940) with Oak Leaves (17 July 1941) during the Second World War, inscribed in black ink onto cream-coloured paper and closing with a bold handwritten signature in clear ink, dated 24 July 1927 and pasted to a card stock backer, the letter measuring 22 cm (w) x 28 cm (h), demonstrating creasing consistent with previous folding into quadrants and with some discolouration evident, in very fine condition, accompanied by a Second World War-period commemorative postcard, featuring a razor-sharp studio portrait of von Richthofen in the uniform of a Generaloberst and with the Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves clearly visible, pasted to a card stock backer, the postcard measuring 10.5 cm (w) x 14.5 cm (h), in very fine condition, also accompanied by an engraved non-magnetic metal plate identifying von Richthofen from previous display of the set, measuring 128 mm (w) x 75 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
