Instituted 1899. In silver, full size, rim presents 6290 PTE D. DAVIES. WELSH REGI, worn on replacement ribbon with three clasps TRANSVAAL, ORANGE FREE STATE, CAPE COLONY, rim has been partially shaved, re-impressed and filed smooth, small edge knocks, dark patina around edge, suspension bar slightly bent, remains in near very fine condition.
Footnote: Pte. D. Davies is on the medal roll for the Queen South Africa Medal with three clasps. The 1st Battalion Welsh Regiment sailed on the Kildonan Castle, arriving at the Cape around November 22 1899. The battalion served amongst the corps troops and was employed in the central district of Cape Colony. This regiment gallantly participated in many events which turned the tide of fortune.
