Footnotes:

1. The Crimea Medal was a campaign medal approved on December 15, 1854, for issue to officers and men of British units (land and naval) which fought in the Crimean War of 1854-1856 against Russia. The medal was awarded with the British version of the Turkish Crimea Medal, but when a consignment of these was lost at sea, some troops received the Sardinian version.

2. The Indian General Service Medal 1908-1935 was a campaign medal approved on January 1, 1909, for issue to officers and men of the British and Indian armies. From 1919, it was also awarded to officers and men of the Royal Air Force, with the Waziristan 1925 clasp awarded solely to the RAF, with a total of twelve clasps sanctioned. It was struck at both the Calcutta and London mints, for Indian and British forces respectively. For early campaigns it was awarded in silver to combatants and in bronze to native bearers and servants. From 1919 onwards all awards were in silver.
