(Heer Schiffchen für Panzertruppe). A Heer Panzer overseas field cap, constructed of black cotton twill. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panelling, with sloping frontal scallops. Each side of the crown is flanked by a ventilation hole, reinforced with magnetic metal eyelets. Stitched onto the peak of the cap is the remnant of an insignia in the form of a black rayon backer bearing a silver-grey machine-embroidered Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. Underneath the insignia is a machine-embroidered tricolour rayon cockade measuring 34 mm (w) x 34 mm (h). The interior features a repaired multi-piece liner consisting of grey and off-white rayon. The cap measures approximately 280 mm (l) x 115 mm (h) when folded. A partially-legible maker’s stamp appears to have been harvested from another cap and utilized as repair material. In addition to the refurbished interior liner, the cap demonstrates other issues consisting of age and use, including deterioration of the eagle insignia and liner, mothing and material fatigue of the exterior wool, and colour fading. The cap is in an overall fair condition.
