Canada, CEF. A War Medal To Private Harold States, No.2 Construction (the ‘Black Battalion’)

Silver Medal bearing 1914-1918 on obverse with bust of King George V on reverse, inscribed “931178 PTE H. STATES CFC [Canadian Forestry Corps]” along the bottom, measuring at 36.1mm (w) x  49.9mm (h-to top of suspension) and weighing 33.0 grams, in extremely fine condition. 

Footnote: Private States, born 1898 in Mapleton, Nova Scotia, was described with a Black complexion upon enlistment in 1916.
