Item #G54838

$391
(Narvikschild). Constructed of gilded zink, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a raised propeller, anchor, and edelweiss, representing the Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, and Gebirgsjäger, respectively, flanked by a date of “1940”, and topped by an inscription of “NARVIK” and a German national eagle perched on top of a wreathed swastika, affixed with all four reverse attachment prongs to a zink backplate with a dark navy blue wool liner, unmarked, the shield measuring 40.98 mm (w) x 90.66 mm (h), demonstrating minor loss of finish with consequent oxidation around the edges, an early and unusually well-preserved zink example in extremely fine condition.
