Germany, HJ. A Mine Rescue Merit Badge in Silver, by the Prussian Mint

(Grubenrettungswesen Abzeichen in Silber). Constructed of silver, the obverse bearing a raised Maltese Cross with pebbled arms, overlaid by a crossed hammer and chisel, overlaid by a crossed hammer and pickaxe, above a HJ-style German national eagle, circumscribed by an inscription of “FÜR VERDIENSTE UM DAS GRUBEN-RETTUNGS-WESEN” (“FOR MERIT IN MINE RESCUE”), the reverse with a horizontal pinback, maker marked “PREUSS. STAATS-MÜNZE” for the Prussian State Mint and with “FEINSILBER” indicating 999 purity content, measuring 45.06 mm in diameter, weighing 26.3 grams, in extremely fine condition.
