Eight point star, gold gilt with red, white and blue enamels. Obverse centre medallion of two gold men shaking hands with blue enamel sky encircled with “Daughters of the Founders & Patriots of America 1607-1898”. Red Stars in each quadrant. Reverse bearing Latin “apatria condita” (translation: founded the country) with  “Harriett Vaughn Rigdon” at 9 o’clock and “1895” at 3 o’clock. Measuring 39.53mm (w) x 42.02mm (h) (from top of ball suspension) and weighing at 15.8 grams. Suspended from 14k gold horizontal pin with blue and red enamels bearing “OFPA- National Officier” on obverse and “Harriett Vaughn Rigdon”- 1895” on reverse. 

 

Footnote: According to book authors Lee E. Bishop, Jr  and J. Robert Elliott II, in their text American Society Medals- An Identification Guide this society was founded in 1898. All female members must have a direct connection from an ‘unbroken paternal line from either parent’ to a relative who lived in 13 colonies prior to May 13, 1687 and also must have a relative in this familial line who assisted the colonies in their fight for independence.
