(Orden de Sanidad Pública). Instituted 1922. 1838-1875 issue. In silver gilt, a ball-tipped enameled white Maltese Cross, presenting cluster of seven gilded rays in each quadrant, obverse centre in black, red, and white enamels depicting time of period Spanish coat of arms, encircled by an enameled red border inscribed AL MERITO SANITARIO (To Health Merit), reverse with ornament pin assembly and dual stays, measuring 60.04 mm (w) x 61.03 mm (h), with stained enamels and bent 3 o’clock arm ball finial, loss of reverse cartouche, very good.  
 
Footnote: The Civil Order of Health was established by Francisco Franco on July 27, 1943. It was founded as successor of the Epidemic Crosses founded in 19th century. It is awarded to distinguished officials in the Spanish Public Health Department. It can be awarded to foreigners.
