Exterior fabricated from an olive green-khaki wool with fold down flaps on either side, the flaps held up with silvered metal hooks fed through brown threading, with two rising peaks forming a valley between the two panels, the front with two 14.5 mm wide buttons, the uppers of which are in dark brown bronze, each of the buttons illustrating the Royal crown above "R.F.C", the core of each in brass and maker marked "J.R. GAUNT & SON LTD. LONDON ENG.", the buttons fed through two reinforced button holes, a 28.7 mm (w) x 33.8 mm (h) bronze Royal Flying Corps badge on the left side, held in place via intact lugs and pin on the inside of the cap. The inside is lined in a gray cotton-rayon blend, the stitching in a repeating diamond pattern, incorporating a 14 mm wide soft brown felt sweatband, an outfitter's label stitched in place on the right side inscribed "Grant & Cockburn, Ltd., 25, PICCADILLY, LONDON, W.". The cap measures 290 mm (w) x 105 mm (h), exhibiting scattered mothing and interruptions in the fabric on the exterior in multiple locations and is very clean. Better than very fine.
