(Orden vom Zähringer Löwen Ritterkreuz II. Klasse mit Schwertern). Instituted 26 December 1812 by Grand Duke Karl Friedrich. (1866-1918 issue). Constructed of silver with gilt and multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a narrow Cross Pattée with its arms joined through the quadrants by arabesque latticework, the obverse with green enameled arms, bearing a central white enameled medallion with a detailed and hand-painted depiction of Zähringen Castle, within a ribbed gilt ring, the reverse bearing a central red enameled medallion overlaid by a gilt lion rampant, within a ribbed gilt ring, the twelve o’clock arm with a suspension loop retaining a period original pribbon, unmarked, measuring 40.04 mm (w) x 42.96 mm (h), weighing 22.7 grams, in extremely fine condition.
