Germany, Wehrmacht. A Black Grade Wound Badge, First Pattern

(Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz). Constructed of a blackened zink alloy, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath with scalloped edges, around a central raised Stahlhelm bearing a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a crimped hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 37.60 mm (w) x 43.40 mm (h), weighing 8.7 grams, with minor oxidation and loss of finish evident, a scarce first pattern badge in very fine condition.
