Germany, Luftwaffe. A Rare Pilot’s Badge, Thin Wreath Aluminum Eagle Version, by F.W. Assmann & Söhne

(Flugzeugführerabzeichen). Constructed of silvered tombak wreath with aluminum eagle, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, maker marked with the logo of F.W. Assmann & Söhne, Lüdenscheid, measuring 42.15 mm (w) x 53.16 mm (h), weighing 21.0 grams, both of the reverse rivets are missing and one hold has been period filled in with solder, with additional scratching and distortion to the edge, a very rare, early example of a so-called Type 6 Assmann badge in very fine condition.
