Germany, Heer. A Narvik Shield

(Narvikschild). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing raised propeller, anchor, and edelweiss, symbolizing the Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, and Gebirgsjäger, respectively, flanked by a date of “1940”, and topped by an inscription of “NARVIK” along with a German national eagle perched on top of a wreathed swastika, affixed with all four reverse attachment prongs to a magnetic metal backplate with a field-grey wool liner indicating Heer (Gebirgsjäger) issue and with an intact paper backer, the shield measuring 42.28 mm (w) x 90.93 mm (h), a superb example in extremely fine condition.
