(Heer Schiffchen M42 für Mannschaften). An extremely well-preserved Heer EM/NCO’s M42 overseas cap, constructed of field-grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped toward the front, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place at the front with two pebbled magnetic metal buttons which emanate from the right panel and meet two reinforced buttonholes set into the left panel. The crown is flanked by ventilation holes which are reinforced with zink grommets. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a field-grey rayon backer, stitched into a T-configuration, bearing a machine-embroidered tri-colour cockade topped by a silver-grey Wehrmacht eagle clutching wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 50 mm (w) x 50 mm (h). The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece grey cotton/rayon-blended liner. Stamped onto the crown is a black ink mark of “LAGO MÜTZEN, MÜNCHEN” for Landes-Lieferungs-Genossenschaft of Munich, with a manufacture date of “1942”, and a size mark of “58”. The cap measures approximately 30 cm (l) x 11 cm (h) when folded on a flat surface. Demonstrating no notable damage or wear, it remains in an extremely fine condition.
