Germany, Imperial. A Rare 1891 Gold Medal for the Visit of Kaiser Wilhelm II to London, by Gibson and Langman

(Goldmedaille für den Besuch des Kaisers in London 1891). An extremely rare and ornate 1891 medal issued to commemorate the visit of Kaiser Wilhelm II to the city of London, constructed of 18k Gold with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse bearing a central red and white enameled coat of arms of the city of London, flanked by raised and finely-detailed dragons, situated above a blue enameled banner bearing a gilt inscription of “DOMINE, DIRIGE NOS” (“LORD, GUIDE US”), the reverse bearing a central enameled Hohenzollern coat of arms, flanked by male figures clutching Prussian standards, topped by a detailed royal crown, and set within a banner bearing a raised inscription of “GOTT MIT UNS” (“GOD WITH US”), topped by a suspension loop retaining a period original ribbon executed in an Imperial red, white, and black tricolour motif, pinned with a Gold and enameled city of London coat of arms, in turn connecting to a Gold badge in the form of a German national eagle overlaid by a Hohenzollern coat of arms and topped by German State Crown highlighted with cut gems, , the reverse with a barrel hinge and horizontal pinback meeting a rounded catch, stamped with the hallmarks of goldsmiths William Gibson and John Lawrence Langman, as well as a mark for the year 1891, the pendant measuring 32.25 mm (w) x 43.80 mm (h), the badge measuring 24.94 mm (w) x 37.64 mm (h), weighing 23.9 grams overall, demonstrating minor flecking to the enamels, a scarce and striking decoration in extremely fine condition.
