The letter is signed in blue ink by Wilhelm I, King of Prussia, and addressed to the Minister of Finances. Wilhelm states that the widow of Hauptmann (captain) and Rathmann (privy councillor) Nickau in Görlitz (Saxony) is to receive a one time gift of 30 Thaler, and that her annual widow’s pension is to be increased from 50 to 90 Thaler. The letter is dated to Head Quarters at Versailles on October 12, 1870. Measuring 222 mm (w) x 261 mm (h), presenting fraying of the right edge, remains near very fine.
