In bronze gilt with red, white and green enamels, inscribed "BRO. V.N. JONES / R.A.O.B. G.L.E. / CHINA PROVINCE" and maker marked "FATORINNI & SONS LTD / BRADFORD WORKS / BIRMINGHAM" on the reverse, the name of the recipient "V.N. JONES" engraved, the remainder in raised text, measuring 43.5 mm (w) x 47 mm (h), bronze gilt suspension bar with hook, soiled original ribbon, the 46 mm (w) x 14 mm (h) bronze and white enamelled hanger inscribed "DONOR" having separated from the ribbon, scattered gilt wear and crazing evident in the white enamels on the obverse, along with greening on the reverse of the badge, chipping, crazing and repair in the white enamels on the hanger, fine.

 

Footnote: The Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB) is one of the largest fraternal organizations in the United Kingdom. The order started in 1822 and is known as the Buffs to members. The RAOB organization aids members, their families, dependents of former members and other charitable organisations. The Order's motto is "No Man Is At All Times Wise" (Latin: Nemo Mortalium Omnibus Horis Sapit) and it has the maxim of "Justice, Truth and Philanthropy". The Order has a Rule Book, Manual of Instruction and Ceremony Lectures issued and revised by the Grand Lodge of England. The "lodge" description for branch organization and headquarters was adopted in imitation of Freemasonry.
